    Thermometry in the βNMR cryostat

There are currently 3 user-installed thermometers on the cryostat: Two GaAlAs diodes (TG120) and one series 600 Silicon Diode (TD670).

The two GaAlAs diodes (serial numbers 10175 and 10540) are equivalent and both mounted on the cold block of the cryostat.
We usually use one of these as the control thermometer.
These sensors are two-lead diodes, and the measured quantity is voltage at a 10 microamp excitation current. Their calibration curves are:

The data may be downloaded from here(10175) and here(10540)

These sensors were chosen because they are relatively insensitive to a magnetic field. For more details see the specifications(pdf) from the LakeShore catalogue.

As a diagnostic we have a silicon diode clamped with wire to the outside of the radiation shield. This thermometer must be read by one of the older Lakeshore model 330 controllers.

In addition there is a diagnostic thermometer from Oxford built in to the block. It is a RhFe resistor (Serial Number 8978).
